Daly, Reid: It's Over
In other words, MTV's everyman veejay and his American Pie fianc?e have officially broken up, and their once-postponed wedding has now been canceled, publicists for the teen dreamboats confirmed to E! News Daily Tuesday.
After weeks of frantic "are-they-or-aren't-they" speculation, tabloid rumors of strip-club visits and reports of blossoming romances elsewhere, Reid finally spoke up, telling the New York Daily News that she and Daly split up last week after trying (unsuccessfully) to resolve their problems.
"When something's not right, it's not right," the 25-year-old actress told the Daily News. "I did everything I could to make the relationship work, and it didn't."
Daly, 28, first proposed to Reid last October, after they met in March during a taping of MTV's spring break festivities in Cancun, Mexico. The TRL host was originally set to exchange vows with the actress in May, with Reid's Josie and the Pussycats costars Rosario Dawson and Rachael Leigh Cook serving as bridesmaids.
But with the nuptials a month away, the pair postponed it, partly because Reid said she wanted to do one more movie before a possible writers and actors strike. Reid went on to costar in The Guest with That '70s Show's Ashton Kutcher and Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon.
Strike fears have since calmed, but Daly and Reid never rescheduled--fueling rumors that the twosome was worried about more than just industry labor issues.
Two weeks ago, Daly reportedly flew to Los Angeles to work things out with her, following rumors that he had moved on to other people. But Reid, a bit cryptically, said, "When trust is broken, the relationship is over."
She wouldn't elaborate on the "trust" issue, nor would she tell the Daily News what she's going to do with the engagement ring. But she added that she's "thankful" the whole matter has been settled.
As for her immediate plans, Reid said, "I'm going to spend most of the summer in the Hamptons and maybe go to Europe with friends. And mostly, I want to enjoy life."
