"Temptation 2": No Kids Allowed
In other words: If the stick turns blue, there's no Temptation Island 2 for you.
Last time around, the desperate-to-be-salacious show--featuring a bunch of scantily clad singles trying to breakup unmarried, but committed, couples--drew some unexpected controversy when one couple, Taheed Watson and Ytossie Patterson, revealed they had a child together. After getting unceremoniously booted off the isle of temptation. they sued show producers, claiming the producers knew about the kid beforehand, but allowed Watson and Patterson to participate because the show needed a fourth couple. The case is pending.
Although the on-air ousting scored some serious ratings, the producers will definitely be double-checking applicants' wallets for any Gymboree memberships.
"All potential participants must not be married and all applicants must not have or be expecting a child," disclaims Rocket Science Laboratories, the production company behind the show. Meanwhile, a Fox rep says the kidless rule applies to both tempters and temptees alike.
Age is another restriction, requiring that both couples and tempters must be over 21. Does this mean we could see some swingin' thirty- or even fortysomething couples this time around?
"Well, it could happen, but I doubt it," a Fox publicist grudgingly admits.
So how many people want to find a new mate? Apparently, a lot more than last season. In its first year, the application pool drew about 1,500 couples and singles hoping to find true love (or trade up their existing models). The first two open calls this year, in San Diego and Las Vegas, have already exceeded those numbers. (And it sure beats the Norwegian version of the show, which has only attracted six--count 'em six--applicants so far.)
The producers and casting agents culled applicants from Hard Rock Cafes from across the country for the first show. The casting calls from this season will all take place in bars suggested by local Fox affiliates. Open auditions will hit Chicago, Philadelphia, and Cleveland this week, with a possible stop in Atlanta next week.
New York and Los Angeles, however, are both notably absent from the list. The reason: Fox says the two cities are loaded with actors, and the network wants to keep away those with SAG cards.
For the rest of you childless non-thespians, you can get application information from the show's toll-free number, 1-866-820-5109, and at Fox.com.
While host Mark Walberg will definitely be returning for more jealousy, floss-like bikinis and shameless flirting, little else is known about the second installment. The show's location still remains undecided, and Fox says there could be more couples and more tempters.
