Kelly's New Kid

Kelly Ripa is finally justifying her maternity leave.

Regis Philbin' sidekick delivered a baby girl over the weekend--more than a week after she began her monthlong motherhood sabbatical from Live with Regis and Kelly.

Lola Grace Consuelos was born about 6:30 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed New York hospital. She tipped the scales at 8 pounds, 3 ounces. It's the second child for Ripa, 30, and her soap stud husband, Mark Consuelos. The couple have a 3-year-old son, Michael Joseph.

Ripa, who's supposed to be on leave for four weeks, phoned Reeg Monday to relay the news. She said she might extend her time off because Lola's "cuter than we anticipated."

Producers have said Ripa can have an extra week or two of leave if she wants it.

Since Ripa took off on June 8, Philbin has been hosting Live with a series of college students.

Ripa, who shot to stardom during a 10-year Daytime Emmy-nominated stint playing Hayley Santos on the ABC soap All My Children, had been one of the most popular fill-in foils for Philbin during the show's quest to replace the departed Kathie Lee Gifford. Ripa even announced that she was pregnant during a November appearance on the show.

In February, she was formally named the permanent replacement for Gifford.
