Madonna Back and "Drowned"

Wanna hear some live Music this summer?

Madonna finally came through on the promise she made months ago and has announced The Drowned World Tour--her first official tour since 1993's The Girlie Show.

Promoters of the tour, SFX Entertainment, are hyping the Material One's first post-mommyhood foray as the most extravagant stage spectacle of the singer's storied career.

The 18-date arena tour, in support of Madonna's chart-topping Music album, will launch June 5 in Cologne, Germany, and include six European shows before it heads to the U.S. The North American leg will begin July 21 in Philadelphia and run through September 9 in Los Angeles.

"I'm finally going to fucking drag my ass into a rehearsal studio," Madonna told Interview magazine in March. She confessed her anxiety over returning to performing after eight years off the road and staving off pop culture irrelevancy in a music world now dominated by the likes of Britney Spears and 'N Sync.

"I never want to repeat myself," the songstress said. "I don't see the point of doing a show unless you offer something that is going to mind-boggle the senses. It's not enough to get on the stage and sing a song. It's all about theater and drama and surprise and suspense."

Madonna started building the suspense in November (just three months after giving birth to son Rocco), returning to the concert stage to work off the dust of eight years. She performed half-hour sets at New York's Roseland Ballroom and in London, singing just a handful of numbers to an adoring crowd. She also opened the Grammys in March with a car-humping performance evocative of her glory days.

Here's a complete rundown of Madonna's summer itinerary: June 5, Cologne at the Arena June 9, Barcelona at the Palau Sant Jordi June 14, Milan at the Fila Forum June 19, Berlin at the Max Schmeling-Halle June 26, Paris at the Palace Omnisports de Paris Bercy July 4, London at Earls Court July 21, Philadelphia at at First Union Center July 25, New York at Madison Square Garden August 2, East Rutherford, New Jersey at the Continental Airlines Arena August 6, Boston at the Fleet Center August 10, Washington, D.C. at the MCI Center August 14, Miami at the National Car Rental Center August 19, Atlanta at the Philips Arena August 25, Detroit at the Palace of Auburn Hills August 28, Chicago at the United Center September 1, Las Vegas at the MGM Grand September 5, Oakland at the Oakland Arena September 9, Los Angeles at the Staples Center
