Oh Baby! It's a Boy for Marc Anthony
The couple welcomed a baby boy to the fold February 5 in an undisclosed New York hospital.
The child was christened Christian Anthony Muniz (the pop star's given last name). He was born at 10:55 p.m. ET, weighing in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce, and is the couple's first child.
Although Muniz, 26, suffered unspecified complications in September--which forced Anthony to cancel several concert appearances--the singer's publicist says both mother and baby are a-okay.
"Early on there were complications with the baby, but now everything's fine, she's perfectly healthy and the couple's very blessed," says publicist Jennifer Nieman.
Nieman also said Anthony was present in the delivery room.
"It was a relatively easy delivery," Nieman said. "Marc cut the umbilical cord. It was really cute."
The 32-year-old Anthony however wasn't so cute about letting the details of his wife's pregnancy leak out to the public. The singer-actor, best known for his Latin-flavored megahit "I Need to Know" off his self-titled English-language debut, accosted a Puerto Rican TV reporter in July when asked if Muniz was with child.
(She was. A few weeks later, Anthony fessed up at a concert, telling fans his wife was expecting in the spring.)
The tabloid TV maven didn't take too kindly to being pushed around, however, and sued Anthony. The suit was later dropped when Anthony appeared in a San Juan court in November and apologized.
Anthony and the former Dayanara Torres tied the knot last May in a private ceremony at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas. It was the first marriage for both of them, but the pop star does have a young daughter, Arianna, from a previous relationship. He wrote the hit song "My Baby You" for her.
Now it looks like he'll have to pen another one. In the meantime, Anthony is up for a Grammy Award on February 21 for best male pop vocal performance for "You Sang to Me."
