Marc Anthony's Mea Culpa
A Puerto Rican tabloid television host called off his lawsuit against the Latin idol after Anthony appeared in a San Juan court Friday and apologized for allegedly pushing the TV personality around.
Leo Fernandez III, a TV gossip maven who headlines a local gossip show, SuperXclusivo, sued Anthony after the 31-year-old singer allegedly shoved the reporter during a July press conference at San Juan's airport.
"Marc said it was an incident that should never have happened, and [Fernandez] decided to drop the complaint," Anthony's lawyer, Rene Munoz, told the Associated Press.
Fernandez reportedly had asked Anthony whether his wife, former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, was pregnant and that somehow invoked the pop star's ire and caused the outburst.
When push came to shove, Fernandez fired back with a suit against Anthony seeking unspecified damages. Last week, a Puerto Rican judge ordered Anthony to appear in court to answer the charges.
The salsa-singing Anthony, best known for his hip-shaking megahit "I Need to Know," initially denied reports over the summer that Torres was pregnant. Only a few weeks later, during a concert, that he fessed up and announced they were expecting a child in the spring.
It was reported in September that Torres was suffering from complications, forcing Anthony to cancel some appearances. The couple has declined further comment on the pregnancy.
Anthony, who scored three American Music Awards nominations last week, and Torres married in Las Vegas in May. The Latin singer was a huge recording force in Latin America before releasing his self-titled first English-language album last year.
