Splitsville for Tim Allen
After more than 15 years of marriage, his wife, Laura Deibel, is filing for legal separation. Her Los Angeles court petition filed yesterday cites "irreconcilable difference" and seeks custody of their 9-year-old daughter, Katherine.
Allen, for one, hopes to keep the reasons for the split under wraps. "There are just some things in my life that I pray will remain personal. This is one of them," he says in a statement. "I hope that our plea for privacy during this very painful moment for my family and me will be respected.
Calls to Deibel's lawyers have not yet been returned.
Deibel has stood by the 46-year-old comic through years of drug and alcohol battles. In 1998, he entered a court-ordered rehab plan as part of a plea bargain for a DUI arrest in his native Michigan.
The Jungle 2 Jungle star served two years in federal prison for selling cocaine to an undercover cop in the late '70s. Since then, however, he has become an outspoken anti-drug advocate.
The couple was married April 7, 1984. No word yet on divorce plans.
Allen's Home Improvement closed shop last May after an eight-season run on ABC.
The tool-minded funnyman next will be heard in Disney's upcoming Toy Story 2 opening Thanksgiving weekend, where he'll reprise his vocals for astro-toy Buzz Lightyear.
