Woody's a Daddy!
New York's favorite multihyphenate, Woody Allen, and wife Soon-Yi Previn have been spotted around town with a new toddler, according to reports in local newspapers.
No immediate word on whether the 5-month-old girl, Bechet Dumaine Allen, was adopted by the Oscar-winning Annie Hall director-writer-actor-neurotic and his wife; however, Soon-Yi had not appeared pregnant in recent sightings or photos, the New York Daily News says.
When confronted by a Daily News reporter, all Allen would say was, "We're just very pleased."
In any case, the child is the first for Woody, 63, and Soon-Yi, 28. Allen, himself a self-styled jazzman, named his daughter after legendary swing clarinetist Sidney Bechet.
Allen married Previn in 1997, after famously admitting to an affair with her while still involved with longtime paramour Mia Farrow, Soon-Yi's adoptive mother.
Woody had known Soon-Yi since she was 8, but said he was never a "father figure" to her. (Soon-Yi's father is concert-meister Andre Previn.)
Allen and Farrow had two adopted children, Dylan and Moses, and a biological son, Satchel. After the Soon-Yi affair surfaced, Farrow and Allen engaged in a brutal, no-holds-barred custody fight over their kids, with Mia accusing Woody of molesting daughter Dylan.
The judge sided with Farrow, telling Allen he lacked "any parenting skills." She won custody of the three tykes (and changed Dylan's name to Eliza and Satchel's to Seamus); initially prohibited from seeing his daughter, Woody was eventually granted supervised visits.
Apparently to make room for baby, Woody cleaned out his closets this weekend, auctioning off 400-plus props from his films, including vintage radios from Radio Days, with proceeds going to AIDS and breast cancer foundations.
