Is 007 Solace Set Cursed?

Quantum of Solace MGM

Being 007's fall guy these days is not all it's cracked up to be.

A veteran stuntman was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries Wednesday in Verona, Italy, after a near-fatal car crash on the set of the latest James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace—the latest mishap to bedevil the 007 flick.

The accident, the second in a week, shut down production while local officials investigate.

The crash occurred on a winding, tunnel-filled road along Lake Garda in northern Italy on the final day of second-unit filming on an action-packed chase sequence.

Per a statement released by the movie's producer, EON Productions, the unidentified stuntman was behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo when he collided with a wall and sustained severe blows to his head.

The man underwent surgery in nearby Verona and is listed in serious condition. A second driver escaped with only minor injuries.

Director Marc Forster and star Daniel Craig were not at the location at the time of the crash.

Last Saturday, another stunt driver was manning Bond's famed Aston Martin when he lost control and pitched the vehicle into the lake. Firefighters managed to pull him out, and he suffered only a few bruises.

Solace is the last thing the martini-swilling superspy's been getting lately.

Late last month, the mayor of a small Chilean town where Quantum of Solace was lensing interrupted the globe-hopping production to protest the fact that producers were using his jurisdiction for scenes supposedly set in neighboring Bolivia, with whom Chile has fought several bitter wars over the years.

Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond adventure, arrives in theaters in the U.K. on Halloween before unspooling in the U.S. Nov. 7. That is, barring any more trouble.
