Nip/Tuck Nearly Tuckered Out, Sunny Still Shining

The end is nigh—though not really that nigh—for Nip/Tuck.
During the Television Critics Association tour this morning, FX announced it has placed a final, 19-episode order for the show—meaning the plastic surgery series will end its run in 2011 with a syndication-ready grand total of 100 episodes.
Which means doctors McNamara and Troy are in for a rather long goodbye.
The silver lining for Nip/Tuck fans is that the show's creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy will stay on board the series through its finale in three years' time.
The extra episode order is in addition to the recently wrapped final eight episodes of the show's fifth season. Production had been postponed due to the writers' strike, and the completed shows will begin airing in January 2009.
FX honchos also hinted that the final 19-episode run may possibly be split into two mini-seasons.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the FX spectrum, Paddy's Irish Pub is in no danger of closing its doors. The cable net announced during TCA that it has ordered a whopping 39 additional episodes of the comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, in addition to the 13-episode fourth season currently in production and premiering Sept. 18, guaranteeing the politically incorrect gang at least six seasons on air.
The entire Sunny cast, including Danny DeVito, have already committed to the duration of the run.
