A nation is in mourning. Half of it, anyway. The other half is getting ready to throw a celebration the likes of which haven't been seen since Never Say Never's bonus content was released on DVD. But both might want to hold off for the time being.
Word has broken, along with the hearts of millions, that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have (are you sitting down?) broken up.
The rumor spread like wildfire over the weekend, with accusations flying mostly in Justin's direction, with the most common narrative being that the singer was caught by Selena sending texts to an ex.
Ambiguous texts and corroborative YouTube videos only stoked (or maybe started?) the reports, which are only gaining traction. So, did Selena and Justin's personal love song just skip a beat? Did they really break up? Don't tear down that Selieber shrine just yet, because this rumor is…
So false!

A source close to the Biebs confirms to E! News that the split never happened and that Justin and Selena are as close as ever and very much a loved-up unit. Phew!
So how'd this horrid rumor get started, anyway? Well, belieb it or not (we had to), it's all down to those blasted Internets!
The rumor has been tracked back to a fairly foul-mouthed YouTube video posted last Friday and since viewed more than 700,000 times in which the poster, a gentleman going by the trust-inducing name of TimothyDeLaGhetto2, first proffered the story that Gomez had caught her man sending flirty texts to his ex-girlfriend and former tour opening act Jasmine Villegas.
That indiscretion, apparently, was enough for Gomez to call off the greatest romance teendom's seen since Britney and that other Justin first made the rounds.
Adding to the reports was a cryptic tweet Justin sent out over the weekend, when reports of a split were at their most fervent, reading, "what makes you so beautiful is that you dont know how beautiful you are…to me."
It was taken by the Beliebers not so much as an admission of his guilt but as him trying to make it up to Selena.
Turns out, of course, that there was never anything to make up to her in the first place (and for all we know, he could just be testing out new lyrics, sharing a sentiment or just generally being a slightly sappy in-love teen).
And further proof if need be that the couple is still, well, a couple: on Saturday night, Bieber was back to his lovesick puppy ways, following Gomez around on tour, and was spotted backstage at her show in Boca Raton, Fla. Wearing her tour T-shirt, no less.
Like the good (not ex) boyfriend that he is. As for now, a source tells E! News that Justin is currently in Los Angeles recording his new album.
