The trainwreck gene reaches back to grandma on this family tree.

A 16 and Pregnant star's own 37-year-old mother was arrested in Rome, Ga., Sunday morning for drug possession after allegedly being caught with meth and pot during a routine road check.

April Michelle Purvis, the mother of Whitney Purvis, who appeared on the first season of the controversial MTV series, was taken into custody in Floyd County after a K9 unit search of her car, the Floyd County Police Department confirms to E! News.

So what went down?

The reality-TV grandma was charged with felony possession of methamphetamines and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

After Purvis was pulled over near Horseleg Creek Road, one officer reportedly noticed a certain funny scent coming from the car and brought in a dog to sniff out the situation. The canine cop soon found less than an ounce of pot stuffed between the driver and passenger seats of her car.

The police then searched her handbag and recovered the meth.

Her passenger, Victor Lamar Clement, 48, was also arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana because neither party would admit who the pot belonged to.

Purvis and Clement remain locked up in Floyd County Jail.

During the first season of the MTV reality series, both Whitney and April (ID'd on the show as Michelle) caused a stir when they were discovered to be pregnant at the same time.
