With a darker braided 'do, tanner skin and svelte frame, Jennifer Lawrence has officially transformed from buxom blonde to The Hunger Games' gritty warrior gal Katniss Everdeen, right there on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.

Lawrence tells the mag she would "regret every day" if she had turned down the role, but you'll never guess who's most excited for the actress to bring Katniss to life:

The Hunger Games author, Suzanne Collins!

"I feel like when you said yes," Collins told Lawrence during a congratulatory call, "the world got lifted off my shoulders."

But Lawrence tells the mag she wasn't always so gung-ho on taking the role.

"I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change," Lawrence revealed to EW in the issue on stands May 20. "And I walked around an entire day thinking 'It's not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven't said yes yet, it's not too late.'"

You can thank Hunger Games director, Gary Ross, for easing Lawrence's worries.

When the two saw each other at a red carpet event during last year's awards season, Lawrence recalls:

"He was asking me what the experience was like and I just kind of opened up and said, 'I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on.' And we both started laughing because that's exactly what it's like for Katniss in the Capitol."

Lawrence sure got that one right! Clearly, Jennifer was the right choice for the coveted role, which, to be fair, only a few actors today would probably totally get.

She continued:

"[Katniss] was a girl who's all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like, 'Oh, no, I don't belong here.'"

But, come on: Designer gowns being thrown at you as a team of professionals does your hair and makeup to get you ready for red carpet appearances for the role that got you nominated for an Oscar? Sounds like a #WhiteGirlProblem to us!

Now that Katniss' lewk has been revealed, wonder how her hunky counterparts will be changing up their looks?
