Avengers, assemble!

Well, technically, they already have, as cameras finally started rolling in Albuquerque, N.M., yesterday on the highly anticipated multi-hero action flick The Avengers.

The movie, which brings together Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), is being helmed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, who playfully shared the exciting news about production commencing via the fan site Whedonesque.

"Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I'm legally permitted to say that). Day one," Whedon wrote. "That's right. We'll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene."

Oh, and as if the four aforementioned hunks weren't enough, let's not forget The Avengers also stars Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury).

Yep. May 4, 2012, can't come soon enough!
