Warner Bros. announced today that Oscar winner Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are officially onboard to join director Christopher Nolan's third (and possibly final?) Batman installment. So who are these two set to play?
Cotillard will take on the role of Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises boardmember who helps Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) get back on track with his business, philanthropy and possibly...love life? Fingers crossed.
And while rumors have been swirling as to who Gordon-Levitt will play, we now know the actor will appear as John Blake, a Gotham City cop under the special command of Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman).
Both the characters are brand new to the Batman universe, so there are no spoilers to be gleaned from the Caped Crusader's comic-book history.
Inception alumn Tom Hardy is already set to play the villainous Bane, who is an established villain.
Anne Hathaway may not have been in Nolan's other film, but she clawed her way in anyway, taking on the role of Selina Kyle and her fiercely feline alter ego, the iconic Catwoman.
So, is there a possibility of Ellen Page playing Harley Quinn? Or Leonardo DiCaprio as the Riddler? He was confusing enough in Inception, so why not?
Right now, it doesn't look like Nolan is going to go that far.
Nonetheless, the director is happy with his choices, explaining it shouldn't be a shocker that he wanted to try and strike blockbuster gold twice:
"When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience," Nolan said. "I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again."
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20, 2012.
