Did American Idol Really Diss Michael Jackson?

Late King of Pop's family reacts to a joke made by one of the contestants

It may have been all about Elton John on American Idol last night as the Top 11 belted out tunes from the Rocket Man himself.

But, in light of an offhanded comment made by one of the contestants during the show, the focus today quickly shifted to another music icon.

None other than Michael Jackson.

"I have a lot of hairspray in my hair to keep it up," said this season's rock 'n' roller James Durbin following his rousing rendition of "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" that wowed both the judges and the crowd. "So, the one thing that I was worried about was having a Pepsi moment."

Unfortuanately, the remark, which actually aired on both coasts, wasn't alright for the the late King of Pop's family. They took offense to the obvious reference to the mishap in 1984 when pyrotechnics accidentally set Jackson's hair on fire while he was filming a Pepsi Cola commercial that left him with second-degree burns on his scalp.

"Mr. Jackson doesn't think the American Idol contestant meant any harm by his comment, but the [Pepsi] incident is nothing to take lightly," a rep for the "Beat It" singer's father, Joe Jackson, tells E! News. "The main concern right now is to find out who was responsible for Michael's death."

Guess we'll just have to tune in tonight to see what, if any, impact Durbin's quip had on the voting, as not one, but two people are sent home.
