Good news, Parks and Recreation fans! New castmember Rob Lowe, who joined the series along with Adam Scott last season and reinvigorated the NBC comedy, is staying put. He is not, repeat not, joining the cast of Two and a Half Men over on CBS as a replacement for Charlie Sheen. So what happened? Was the speculation misinformed? Did Lowe already turn down CBS' offer? Here's what we can tell you:

Parks and Recreation boss Mike Schur assured the assembled crowd at the 28th Annual William S. Paley Television Festival that "there's no truth to the rumors" that Lowe is signing on to Chuck Lorre's flagship sitcom as a replacement for crazypants McSheen. In Schur's words, "The internet lit a match and set itself on fire," in regard to the stories about Lowe. According to Schur, Lowe has a "multiyear contract" with P-Rex, so even if he wanted to jump ship, he would have legal problems up the wazoo if he tried.

Sheen had all but given his blessing to a Lowe hiring yesterday when he told the K-Earth 101 radio station in Los Angeles, "[Lowe]'s a buddy of mine. He's a beautiful man, a brilliant actor and I hope he does it and kicks its ass because I still get [paid]."

The Lowe-Sheen ties go back many years; the Sheen-Estevez brothers (Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez), the Lowe brothers (Rob and Chad Lowe) and the Penn brothers (Sean and the late Chris Penn) all attended Santa Monica High School together in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Schur also explained to the audience that Lowe could not attend the Paley Fest event because he was touring colleges with his children.
