Casting Couch: Battlestar Fraks Out TV Movie, Streep Readies Rom-Com, Office Star Gets Tarantino'd

Michael Trucco, Battlestar Galactica Sci Fi

Get ready for a Battlestar Galactica of frakkin' supersized proportions.

Fresh off the announcement that the upcoming 10-episode swan-song season of Battlestar Galactica will include even longer episodes than usual, the Sci Fi Channel has announced that the cult fave will live on a tiny bit longer in the form of a two-hour movie set to air on the cable channel after the series concludes.

The stand-alone special, set in the time period immediately before the Cylons' catastrophic attack on Caprica, will be directed by Edward James Olmos and star series regulars Michael Trucco, Aaron Douglas and Dean Stockwell.

Other familiar faces are expected to come aboard soon. The untitled TV movie is slated to begin production in Vancouver at the end of the summer.

The final season of BSG, meanwhile, will begin airing on the Sci Fi Channel early next year.

In other big casting news:

  • Mamma mia! Meryl Streep certainly seems to have found a new niche. Fresh off her turn in the ABBA-powered musical, the Oscar winner is in advanced negotiations to head up the cast of a new romantic comedy from Nancy Meyers, according to Variety. Production on the untitled chick flick, from the same mind behind Something's Gotta Give and The Holiday, begins in February.
  • B.J. Novak is going from cubicle to trench. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Office writer-actor is in talks to play a soldier in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards, about a band of Jewish resisters in France during WWII. Shooting is expected to kick off in Europe this fall.
  • Project Runway's resident designer Michael Kors is bringing his fierce self over to the CW for a one-episode guest stint on the fashion-forward series Gossip Girl. According to Women's Wear Daily, Kors appears as himself in a Fashion Week-themed episode and wrapped production on his cameo role Tuesday.
