There's been plenty of backlash about Ricky Gevais' controversial turn as host of the 2011 Golden Globes, and he even believes he went too far. If only for a quick second.
Now, the comic will explain what he was thinking tonight on Piers Morgan Tonight. And believe us, despite his fleeting self doubt, and apology on his personal blog, his ballsiness is back.

As the Globes host, he bashed the likes of Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis, Robery Downey Jr., Ashton Kutcher, Angelina Jolie and delivered a joke about "gay Scientologists" to an open-mouthed audience.
When Morgan asks Gervais is he thought he went too far, here is what Gervais had to say for himself.
"They hired me for a job, and if they didn't want me, they shouldn't have hired me," Gervais said, adding that producers knew exactly what they were getting with his well-known raunchy, British humor.
Morgan tells Gervais that, as a fellow Brit, many people asked his opinion on if he believed Gervais went too far. Morgan defended the comic, agreeing that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association knew exactly what he was going to deliver.
"I said it's a bit like inviting a hammerhead shark out to dinner and then when he eats all the guests you start complaining," Morgan joked. "I mean, you kind of know what you're going to get."
Gervais agreed, saying he believes he did "nothing wrong" and that he's sure "these people" [Hollywood stars] have got to have a sense of humor, no? When he addressed the issue of hurting feelings, he explains it like this:
"I'm not judging them, I'm not judging them for what they did," he says, adding he's not mocking them either.
"I'm confronting the elephant in the room. They hired me. Like I'm going to go out there and not talk about the issues in their industry. Don't forget, I've got to be an outsider there. I mustn't come out there as everyone's mate and schmooze, that's nauseating. I've got to come out there, and I've got to roast them."
Good point.
No matter, though. Even though this was his second year hosting, Gervais says he won't be doing it again. And if you think that was bad, he says we'll have to just his stand up.
"Can't wait for the people who thought it was over the top to see my stand-up shows. F--k me, they will s--t themselves," he said.
