There are already enough actors to go around in the Hanks clan so why not a hip-hopster? Well, that's exactly what this celebrity spawn hopes to become.
Chet Hanks, the 21-year-old son of Tom Hanks, is generating lots of buzz this week after releasing a rap remix of Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" that's a tribute to Northwestern University, where he's currently enrolled as a theater major.
And he's trying to do it without banking on his famous surname.
The wannabe emcee (real name Chester Marlon Hanks) goes by the stage name "Chet Haze" and hopes to parlay the track's viral success into a career as a full-time rapper.
Seriously.
When he's not in acting classes (aside from his last name, his biggest claim to fame is a tiny part in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), the sophomore has been holed up in a Chicago studio recording what he hoped would be not only a contribution to school spirit but a tribute to Northwestern's nascent party scene (take it from this writer who's an alum though—state school it's not).
"Any kids really living the college life can relate to it," the younger Hanks, er, Haze told the Daily Northwestern.
With lyrics like "White kicks/Purple kush/This is college/Hittin' blunts after hittin' books," Chet's just tellin' it like it is.
"I don't think it's something that should cause anybody to be angry or offend anyone," he said, when asked about the drug reference.
As for the baggage that goes with being Tom Hanks' kid?
"I'm not my dad. I am my own person," he noted, while adding that he's proud of his famous name.
And what does his famous father think about his musical aspirations? The Oscar-winning Tom has yet to comment, but Chet says his family is fully behind him.
