Shelley Malil is paying dearly for his crime.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin actor, who played one of Steve Carell's stereo shop colleagues, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.

"I want to do whatever I need to do to make sure I make right from the wrong that I did," he said in court.

Malil was convicted in September of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after less than four hours of jury deliberations. He had admitted to stabbing ex Kendra Beebe, but claimed he became disoriented when he went to her San Diego home and found another man there, leading him to stab at a figure he thought was attacking him.

Well, the jury didn't buy that.

The 45-year-old actor was acquitted of one charge of residential burglary, but apparently the jury believed he intended to kill his ex when he stabbed her more than 20 times with a kitchen knife after he walked in on her drinking wine with the other guy.

Beebe suffered a punctured lung and cuts to her neck, back, chest and arms.

Malil will be eligible for parole in 12 years, but theoretically could complete his entire sentence in nine years after taking into account good behavior and time served, according to prosecutor Keith Watanabe.

That's still leaves him plenty of time to make it into the 60-Year-Old Virgin.
