The Social Network Gets Liked by L.A. Critics; Which Stars Got Snubbed?

Facebook movie named Best Picture by Los Angeles Film Critics Association; international actors rule over world-famous celebs in acting categories

The Social Network has a way of making friends—and awards-season buzz.

The Facebook movie was named Best Picture today by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin also took honors.

So, who didn't win?

Just about anybody you've ever heard of.

Outside of Colin Firth, an Oscar frontrunner named Best Actor for The King's Speech, the L.A. critics bypassed the usual bold-faced suspects (James Franco, Natalie Portman, Annette Bening, Michael Douglas, etc.) in favor of Korean actress Kim Hye-ja, French actor Niels Arestrup and Australian actress Jackie Weaver, who, granted, made a splash at the National Board of Review awards.  

Toy Story 3 was so good the scribes couldn't find an obscure hand-drawn toon that they liked better—they named the Disney blockbuster the year's top animated film.

While the L.A. critics are not at all in the Oscar-predicting business, their last Best Picture pick, The Hurt Locker, did go onto Academy Awards glory. And that oughta rate a "like" from The Social Network.
