He may have won his freedom early, but Robert "Joe" Halderman was a big loser Monday night.

At the News and Documentary Emmy Awards in New York, the man who tried to extort money from David Letterman did not earn a statuette for his producing work on a 2009 episode of CBS' 48 Hours Mystery. Halderman was not even present, though, having previously announced that he would not be attending the ceremony so as to avoid the inevitable media circus.

But, former felon failures aside, the Tiffany Network didn't leave empty-handed. In fact, CBS dominated the night with seven Emmy wins, including three for 60 Minutes and another three for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric
