She is woman, hear her roar. Sofia Coppola won the coveted Golden Lion award for her film Somewhere Saturday at the Venice Film Festival.
Somewhere tells the story of a forlorn actor (played by Stephen Dorff) who learns to face his life's worth with the help of his 11-year-old daughter, played by Elle Fanning. Coppola has described her film as a "portrait of today's L.A."
Acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino was the head of the jury that selected Somewhere for the Golden Lion during the 11-day annual festival. Coppola previously won an Oscar for penning Lost in Translation, which she also directed. Somewhere is scheduled for wide release Dec. 22.
