Anna Nicole Smith dreamed of being rich and famous in her life. In death...well, one out of two ain't bad.
A federal appeals court in California refused to reconsider its decision that essentially blocked the late E! star's estate from getting any of the $1.6 billion fortune of her late oil baron husband, J. Howard Marshall.
In other words, there goes Dannielynn's college fund.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco did not offer an explanation as to why it passed on rehearing the case.
As a result, Dannielynn, Smith's 3-year-old daughter and lone heir, will not inherit a dime from the union. This despite a bankruptcy judge's 2001 ruling awarding Anna Nicole half of Marshall's assets. A U.S. district judge reduced that amount to $88 million only to have the 9th Circuit overturn altogether.
The case then went to the U.S. Supreme Court in 2006 which sent it back to the lower courts, declaring Smith had a right to pursue her claims. Once again the lower courts denied any payout to Smith and later, following her overdose death in 2007, her estate.
In the event of things not going their way today, attorneys for Smith's estate promised to appeal to the Supremes again.
Good luck with that. We're not holding our breath.
