Robin Hood is screening to the rich and hoping good word of mouth trickles down to the (comparatively, by Hollywood standards) poor.

The Russell Crowe-starring, Sherwood Forest-escapading action flick has been selected to open the Cannes Film Festival when the French Riviera movie fest kicks off May 12.

Frequent Crowe collaborator Ridley Scott directed the film, which suffered a series of rewrites and other setbacks in its infancy—including trading Sienna Miller for Cate Blanchett—which will screen out of competition and therefore not vie for any of the festival's coveted prizes. (Those films that are competing will have to face the critical and box office-approved eye of Tim Burton, who heads up this year's jury.)

The infamous outlaw and his merry men will have its worldwide debut just two days later on May 14.
