Is Conan O'Brien crazy like for a Fox?

With a 30-city comedy tour on the books and a potential return this year to late-night TV, suddenly it doesn't look like the ousted Tonight Show host got the short end of the proverbial stick.

Even if it looks like he won't get to appear on the Idol Gives Back special April 21.

Despite an invite by American Idol's producers, contractual limitations prevent O'Brien from appearing on television until May 1. But that doesn't mean he won't be on TV sometime soon. The late-night funnyman has resumed talks with Fox regarding a new potential late-night talk show, according to the Hollywood Reporter

While both O'Brien's camp and the network's reps are still reportedly staying tight-lipped on when (or if) a deal will be reached, the outspoken comedian could launch a new show as soon as September, after his NBC contract expires.

But you might not have to wait that long to find out his plans.

If O'Brien lands a deal with Fox before his tour kicks off, THR speculates he'll be free to meet with Fox affiliate stations in New York City during the May 17 Fox upfronts—a beneficial strategy David Letterman reportedly used when he started on CBS's Late Show after leaving NBC.

The potential for fresh hot CoCo in September? Can't wait.
