Like sands of the hourglass...

Frances Reid, one of the original castmembers of Days of Our Lives, has died. She was 95.

The Texas-born, Berkeley-grown actress played Alice Horton on the stalwart NBC soap opera since its debut on Nov. 8, 1965, going from loyal Vietnam-era wife and mom to snowy-haired town elder over the course of four decades.

Reid's character was seemingly murdered, along with a bunch of other fan favorites between 2003 and 2004, by Salem's most menacing serial killer to date, but the fates weren't that cruel and an ultimate twist showed Alice and her fellow nine "victims" alive and well.

Reid's last appearance on Days was in 2007, three years after she received the Daytime Emmys' Lifetime Achievement Award.

Maybe Alice and Tom Horton should be included in our gallery of Retro TV Couples We Love.
