If it's inspirational fight songs they were after, the Minnesota Vikings really should've stuck with Prince.
Instead, the Brett Favre-led, well, losers opted to take their motivation from implausible viral sensation Larry Platt, the 62-year-old American Idol reject responsible for introducing "Pants on the Ground" to an unsuspecting—and apparently undiscerning—nation.
Maybe they had it coming.
The team was such fans of both the tune and Minnesota native Platt that they flew him to New Orleans over the weekend for some pregame festivities in advance of their (ill-fated) NFC Championship Game. In addition to taking pictures with the Vikings, Platt also performed a spirited rendition of the tune for the players, showing viral wannabe Favre how it's really done.
Sadly, they lost (the game as well as their dignity) to the Reggie Bush-led New Orleans Saints, whose fans nevertheless found a way to get in on the Idol action.
"Favre on the ground, Favre on the ground, lookin' like a sack with Favre on the ground," a hometown fan's sign in the Superdome read.
It seemed to do the trick. Sadly, it wasn't their pants that the Vikings ended up dropping. It was the ball. So, tell us…
