Britney Spears: free at last?

After two long—not to mention clean-living and mentally stable—years under the thumb of her father and a lawyer conservator, today could very well mark the start of Britney's freedom.

The pop star slipped into court just before her hearing's scheduled 1:30 p.m. start time, and speculation is high that her presence at the courthouse could signal the winding down of her micromanaged lifestyle.

"The judge would usually, especially in such a highly publicized situation, take it under submission and think about it before doing anything the same day," family law attorney Charlotte Goldberg, who is not involved in the Spears case, told E! News. "Even if there is a motion, the hearing on it might not be tomorrow."

Well, she's waited this long. What's one more day?
