It was bound to happen sooner rather than later. Miley Cyrus simply wasn't going to be on Hannah Montana forever.

Of course, most people thought the wig would have come off by now.

Alas, Disney Channel has released a statement officially admitting that the network's biggest attraction will be coming to an end following the conclusion of the upcoming fourth season.

And, as far as we can tell, pole dancing, short skirts and boob tattoos had nothing to do with it.

The network only held options on the star's contract through a fourth season.

For fans, however, the end is far from near.

"You never know in this business…but right now, we're scheduled to wrap after shooting this new batch of episodes," Disney Channel Worldwide programming exec Adam Bonnett says in the statement. "The episodes will continue to roll out at least over a full year."

In other words, they're going to drag this farewell out as long as possible. In fact, it already began—the third season finale was called "Is Miley Saying Goodbye?"

Shooting begins Jan. 18 and is set to conclude sometime over the summer.
