Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo was hospitalized Sunday morning after his tour bus slipped on an ice patch in New York and crashed.

The 40-year-old "Beverly Hills" singer/guitarist was tossed around the back lounge area of the bus and suffered three cracked ribs and internal damage, as well as injuring one of his legs.

Cuomo's wife, Kyoko Cuomo, and 2-year-old daughter, who were riding with him, were unharmed, E! News has confirmed. However, Kyoko was tossed out of the upper bunk of the bus along with Rivers' assistant, Sarah Kim.

Kim, who fractured two ribs and a lower vertebrae, was rushed to an upstate New York hospital along with the banged-up rocker.

Karl Koch, who runs the band's website and posted an account of what happened, arrived on the scene a few minutes later. He praised the bus driver for his driving skills, saying, "This story would have been far more tragic if not for his actions."

Koch said the accident happened around 7:18 a.m. after the bus slid on black ice, plowed over a guardrail and plunged 8 to10 feet into a muddy ravine. He said the damage inside of the bus was severe.

"Everyone on the bus was either terrified or injured or both," Koch said. "The interior of the bus was a chaotic mess with broken glass, smashed glass and plates, food and clothing items strewn everywhere."

Cuomo was unable to speak due to the pain in his rib cage. He had been trapped inside because the bus had pressed up against five feet of wet mud. Local EMTs had to use the Jaws of Life to get him out.

Kim and Cuomo are both in stable condition. Cuomo has been transported to a larger area hospital and is under observation.

Cuomo and family were on their way back from Toronto, Ontario, for a concert at Boston University's Agganis Arena scheduled for Monday night.

As a result of the crash, however, the band has canceled the remainder of its December Raditude tour.
