Ballas & Hough "Sing" Before Two Are Booted on Dancing With the Stars

OK, we understand Mark Ballas and Derek Hough are totally into the whole music thing.

But they must know that we know from watching Britney, Paula and other pop-music makers that, if you're doing a taxing dance routine while performing live, you're probably not doing a whole lot of actual singing.

As we said, the Ballas Hough Band made a rousing Dancing With the Stars debut. We assume their song had words under all the spectacle.

Otherwise, Tuesday's show was another of those tense affairs, with two celebs headed for the door and everyone forced to prepare a dance-off-worthy routine just in case.

So there was Donny Osmond in his green sparkly jacket and Kelly Osbourne in her hot pink and leather...

Yet who knows what they were going to do with them. Both fan favorites were declared safe early on.

Kelly, who finally seemed to kick the nerves last night, was rewarded for daring to think positively with an early reprieve, and she and Louis van Amstel got to watch Cobie Caillat perform from the cozy recesses of backstage.

But Michael Irvin's latest Hail Mary pass went long and his enthusiastic run on the show ended, despite the marked improvement he showed with last night's fox-trot and team paso doble.

"Thank you," began the NFL Hall of Famer. "Last night was a great night, and to see the audience here standing up as a way of saying they appreciate the hard work, it means a great deal to a lot of people right now, with the economy going the way it has."

The judges then seemingly had their work cut out for them, having to choose between Mark Dacascos, who had a severely off night Monday, and Aaron Carter, who just got unlucky with the votes after dancing a hell of a jive.

But no one was going to top Len Goodman's "comback kid" tonight, and Mark, despite a rousing cha-cha with healthy-again partner Lacey Schwimmer, was sent packing.

"I think you did awesome last night for two days [of rehearsal]," Lacey told Mark, who called the DWTS experience one of the greatest of his life.

"Certainly much harder than it looks on television—it's a lot easier to watch it than do it," the Iron Chef America chairman said.

Speaking of which, Kelly, Donny, Aaron, Mya and Joanna Krupa each have two individual dances to perform next week.
