Abracadabra! David Copperfield Freezes Sex Suit

David Copperfield would rather make this vanish, but he'll take what he can get.

A federal judge in Seattle has granted a six-month delay in a civil suit filed by a former Miss Washington USA contestant, accusing the magician of raping her on his private island in the Bahamas.

Per the Seattle Times, U.S. District Judge John Coughenour stayed the case at the behest of Copperfield's attorneys so that investigators can first finish up a criminal probe into the woman's claim.

The 21-year-old plaintiff filed her complaint in July, shortly before the statute of limitations would have run out. She states in court papers that she met the illusionist during a 2007 gig, and he invited her to be a guest at his $50 million Bahamian paradise, where the purported assault occurred.

Copperfield, 53, has vehemently denied wrongdoing and claimed the woman's suit is merely a cheap trick to score a big payday. His legal eagles contend that he was being put in an no-win situation if he submitted to a deposition or testified in the civil matter, since such information could be used against him in a criminal prosecution.

Hence the request to postpone. Maybe he should have sawed her in half.

A decision on whether or not criminal charges will be filed is expected within the next six months. A court date has been scheduled for March.
