D.A. Passes on Dennis Farina's Gun Bust

Dennis Farina has managed to avoid a repeat of Big Trouble.

The actor will not face felony charges for attempting to board a flight at LAX earlier this month with an unregistered .22 caliber semiautomatic pistol in his luggage, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

Instead, Farina's case has been referred as a possible misdemeanor to the L.A. City Attorney's Office, where the matter is currently under review.

While he was originally booked for a lower-grade offense following his May 11 arrest, authorities bumped the charge up to felony possession of a loaded firearm after learning not only did the former Law & Order detective not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but that it was also unregistered.

Farina, 64, spent the majority of the afternoon at Van Nuys Jail before being released on $35,000 bail.

Police said he was very cooperative and apologetic while in custody. Upon his release, Farina issued a statement to "apologize to anyone and everyone that I have caused any embarrassment or inconvenience to.

"It is my own stupidity to find myself in this embarrassing situation," the What Happens in Vegas star said. "I'll be spending the next few days kicking my own ass. No one is more embarrassed than myself."
