We were happy to hear yesterday from Larry Birkhead that Dannielynn is now a healthy and happy 3-year-old.

Considering all the pills Anna Nicole Smith was popping while pregnant, it's a minor miracle.

At least that's how a psychaitrist who treated Smith told it today on the stand, in the hearing to determine whether Smith sidekick Howard K. Stern and two of her physicians will go to trial for enabling the former Playmate's substance abuse that led to her 2007 death.

For a second day, Dr. Natalie Maulin testified that she attempted to wean an addled, pregnant Smith off prescription painkillers, only to be rebuffed by the onetime E! star.

According to Maulin, Smith checked into Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in April 2006 seeking relief from her withdrawal from pain and anti-anxiety medications. She had wanted to stay clean, the psychiatrist said, while she carried her baby with Birkhead to term.

Too bad Smith also had a habit of being so stubborn.

Maulin said she talked to one of Smith's doctors, defendant Sandeep Kapoor, who supposedly admitted to giving Smith seven different painkillers. Maulin then recommended Smith get started on a strict program that included hypnosis and acupuncture. Maulin also urged Smith to enter a drug rehabilitation clinic, but Smith declined.

Around that time, the psychiatrist  said she discussed Smith's chemical dependency with Kapoor and told him that she felt Smith had all the hallmarks of an addict.

Today's testimony provided a boost to prosecutors' arguments that Kapoor, along with Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, kept prescribing drugs to Smith despite knowing she had a problem, ultimately leading to her fatal overdose.

The trio have all pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiring to supply drugs to Smith. At the conclusion of the preliminary hearings, a judge will decide whether there's enough evidence to send the case to trial.
