If Mel Gibson drunkenly accuses Jews of being responsible for all the wars in the world and no one hears about it, did it ever really happen?

Well, we all heard about it, so it's safe to say it happened. But while Gibson has since paid the price in the court of public opinion for what he said, it's still unclear who leaked Gibson's arrest report, which included a recounting of the Braveheart star's supremely stupid comments, to TMZ.

The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office said Wednesday it will not be filing any charges against Sheriff's Deputy James Mee, who busted the actor for driving under the influence in 2006 and ended up on the receiving end of an anti-Semitic tirade.

"While it is clear that the crime of releasing public records prior to authorization was committed, the admissible evidence of identity is insufficient to warrant criminal charging," read the district attorney's charge evaluation worksheet, which concluded that there was no evidence proving that Mee was the only person who could have shared the info.

The document showed that two calls were made from Mee's home to numbers belonging to TMZ founder Harvey Levin, but investigators weren't able to positively identify the caller. Levin also called Mee's house eight times, per the report.

"There still remains a lack of evidence of the identity of the perpetrator who released the pages of the initial report without proper approval," the evaluation concluded.

"Are you a Jew?" Gibson famously asked Mee when the officer pulled him over for speeding in Malibu on July 28, 2006.

Mee has said that he was asked to leave the Jew-baiting stuff out of a later draft of his report, but it was the original that ended up in TMZ's hands.

Gibson later apologized on Good Morning America for his "stupid rambling."

"This is the last thing I want to be is that kind of monster," he said.
