Farina Cops to Gun Charge

Dennis Farina's very own crime story has come to a swift end.

The veteran Hollywood tough guy, best known for roles on Crime Story and Law & Order, copped a plea today to toting a gun into Los Angeles International Airport two months ago.

Through his lawyer, Farina pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a loaded weapon in his briefcase through LAX security. He was immediately sentenced to two years' probation and ordered to pay fines and penalties totalling $1,191, plus court fees.

"He was [also] ordered to not own, carry or possess weapons in California for the duration of his probation," City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan told E! News.

Two other misdemeanor counts, possessing a concealed handgun and possessing a loaded firearm in public, were dropped earlier.

If he stays out of trouble the first year, the 64-year-old actor won't have to finish serving the rest of the term.

Farina had faced up to six months in the slammer if he had been convicted on all counts.

There was no immediate comment from the actor's attorney, Blair Berk.

Farina, a former Chicago cop, was busted by LAPD when he attempted to go through a security checkpoint with a .22 caliber pistol. He was initially booked on a felony gun charge after police discovered the gun was unregistered. He was released after posting $35,000 bail and the charge was later reduced to a misdemeanor.

After the incident, Farina later blamed the situation on his "own stupidity."

"I'll be spending the next few days kicking my own ass," he said. "No one is more embarrassed than myself."

Farina can now focus on his day job. He is gearing up to serve as the new host of Unsolved Mysteries. The revived series is set to premiere on Spike in October.
