Swayze Tribute Far More Touching Than DWTS' Dual Elimination

Two celebs go home upon the conclusion of Dancing With the Stars' premiere week

They did the lift—and it was good.

Before the ax fell for the first time this season and two Dancing With the Stars contestants had been shooed off the floor like flies, six of the show's pro hoofers performed a tribute medley to the late, great dirty dancer Patrick Swayze.

Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin took a romantic turn to "She's Like the Wind" (which would have been better if, for once, they could have played the original Swayze-sung music rather than using that darn house band), after which real-life husband and wife Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya waltzed to "Unchained Melody."

Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke were tasked with the grand "Time of My Life" finale, which ended with the infamous lift that Swayze and Jennifer Grey successfully executed at last at the end of Dirty Dancing.

When you think about dancing like that, are you really going to feel much concern afterward for two celebs who just couldn't cut it?

Added his partner, the never-been-crowned Edyta Sliwinska: "I wish we could stay a little longer because, like he said, we had a blast working together, and I think he has a lot more to offer...I wish the best luck to the people that stayed in because I'm pretty confident they're going to be surprisingly entertaining."

Hope so.

Gray, whose rehearsal schedule was inhibited by a European tour that Roberts had to accompany her on, says she had a "good time."

"It's been cool," said the singer, who tried to dance but stumbled.

"I learned a little bit about dancing. Ballroom isn't my calling, exactly, but I learned a little bit and we had a good time."

And with that, the remaining celebs—Kathy Ireland, Kelly Osbourne, Mya, Joanna Krupa, Debi Mazar, Melissa Joan Hart, Natalie Coughlin, Louie Vito, Michael Irvin, Chuck Liddell, Donny Osmond, Mark Dacascos, Tom DeLay and Aaron Carter—survived to dance another day.

All 14 will perform next Monday.
