Saturday Night Dead: Ax Falls at 30 Rock

Well, Hoda Kotb's life just got a little easier. Not so her late night doppelgänger.

While last week brought the theoretically funny-bone-tickling news that two new comedians would be joining the cast of Saturday Night Live this year, what Lorne Michaels giveth, Lorne Michaels also taketh away.

Hence this week's round of surprise firings, with featured players Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson getting the boot after just one season at 30 Rock.

"I will say to you now, though, that I had a GREAT time there," Watkins told The Comic's Comic, which broke the news. "Although it seems kinda crazy right now, this may shake out to make sense to everyone. Lorne isn't known for indulging in any lip-service and I feel very encouraged by his words last week."

As for what words those were, Watkins told EW.com that Michaels informed her "that he felt deep down that I should have my own show. And I agreed."

Which may shed some light on the mystery future project she was talking up to TCC.

"I'm working on something I'm very excited about now, so…the journey continues..."

Just not on Saturday night.
