Kate Gosselin: Jon's a Good Dad "Deep Down"

Mother of eight tells Larry King she and her estranged hubby have their share of disagreements on "the current things"

Kate Gosselin is right about at least one thing: 5 and 8 are a little young to be hearing bedtime stories about Hailey Glassman and Kate Major

According to mom, the eight Gosselin children are "wonderful, marvelous, gorgeous, lovely."

But the reality-TV matriarch is still coming to terms with the end of her 10-year marriage to Jon Gosselin. And though we think it would be a helpful part of the healing process, she doesn't plan on spilling any juicy details about why they broke up until her toddlers have reached voting age.

"My main concern is my kids," she said on Larry King Live Tuesday. "I don't want them to see or hear anything on TV that I didn't discuss with them. We discussed what they need to know at their developmental age group."

And despite the stuff she can't talk about on TV, Kate answered yes when Larry King asked if her estranged hubby is a good father.

After a really long pause, that is.

"Uh, his decisions right now are not ones that I would necessarily make, but down deep in his heart, I know that he is [a good dad]," Kate said.

"I'm looking more toward the future and the decisions of today that affect tomorrow, more so than he is."

Gee, we wonder which of Jon's decisions she could be talking about.

While Kate told King that she asks herself every day why her marriage ended, she obviously knows more opinions about it than she's letting on.

"It's all in that vault," she said.

But despite her admitted tendency to "freak out about everything," Kate is trying to leave what she can't control well enough alone.

"I can honestly say that there is so much on my plate right now that I absolutely cannot react that way to every little thing that comes by—or big thing," she quickly added.

"I want to be positive, I want to work forward, and I want the kids to look back on all that they're going to see of me and know that I did my best."

We'd like to think that Kate's not letting Jon have all the fun, but the bikini-loving 34-year-old says she's too busy to date.

"I'm not really worried about it," she said. "I'm lonely, but I'm very busy. Actually, I'm all right."

In a recent sit-down with Today's Meredith Vieira, Kate refuted reports that she was purchasing a Maryland condo—a story that went hand in hand with a rumor that she had hooked up with her married bodyguard, who lives in the area where she was said to be condo hunting.

"I live at home with my kids. That's where I belong, that's where I will stay," she said.

So where does she go when Jon's at their Pennsylvania home with the kids, King asked?

"Elsewhere," Kate said, smiling.

"There are very good aspects of being a control freak," she added. "I'm very driven, nothing less than the best, keep moving…I enjoy that part of my personality.

"I persevere. I will not lay down and die."
