Clooney's Latest Starring Role: U.N. Video

Now that he's apparently broken things off with beauty Sarah Larson, George Clooney is turning his attention to more worldly matters.

The Oscar-winning actor, activist and all-around good guy paid tribute to the 60th anniversary of United Nations peacekeeping today by releasing a PSA titled "Peace Is Hard," giving props to the world body's 110,000 peacekeepers protecting millions of civilians in war-torn areas around the world.

Clooney, 47, teamed up with the Better World Campaign to narrate the spot, which features some cool animation, on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.

"Peace...is more than a wristband and a T-shirt. It's not just a donation and a 5K race," Clooney intones. "And peace is certainly more than a celebrity endorsement…Peace is a full-time job."

"We owe all of the United Nations peacekeepers a debt of gratitude for the dangerous work they do to ensure that peace is preserved, civilians are protected, and elections are respected," the Leatherhead added in a statement.

"These brave men and women go to places where few others will risk their lives for peace. I am proud to continue my work with the U.N. to remind those in the United States and around the world that peace is not easy, and like war, must be waged."

In 2002, the U.N. General Assembly designated May 29 to honor its peacekeepers and pay tribute to the 2,400 who died while in the field.

Clooney paid a visit to the Darfur region of Sudan in January, hoping to call attention to the ongoing genocide that has taken the lives of thousands of people there and displaced hundreds of thousands more. For his efforts, that same month U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon made him a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
