As is the case these days, the outpouring of grief over Michael Jackson's untimely death started seconds later in the Twitterverse, where seemingly every celebrity with a Twitter account had a reaction:

Pete Wentz, who grew up listening to the pop icon, is mourning the loss of the "last legend."

• Jackson showed Sean "Diddy" Combs how to "see the beat."

• The highlight reel in John Mayer's head wants the public to focus on " the '83 moonwalking, MTV owning, mesmerizing, unstoppable, invincible Michael Jackson." Also, "I think we'll mourn his loss as well as the loss of ourselves as children listening to Thriller on the record player."

Lindsay Lohan, who obviously identifies with the idea of harsh media scrutiny, hopes the media respect the family's privacy.

• Jackson was Wyclef Jean's "music god. he made me believe that all things are possible and through positive music he will live forever."

The list goes on...

Ashton Kutcher: "I plea to the press to respect his wishes of maintaining the anonymity of his children. Rip Sending love and light to family and friend but especially his kids."

Jenny McCarthy: "Michael Jackson has passed away. His spirit and creative influence will live on through his music that we have loved for decades."

Kirstie Alley: "Don't know what to say...so I will say I am so sorry for his family either way... What a horrible way to find these things out...sorry"

Jordin Sparks: "Omg I'm bawling right now. Michael...."

Kim Kardashian: "Wow I am truly in shock that Michael Jackson has passed away! I love u Jackson family, my prayers are with the whole family!"
