Real, Live Regis Returning to Millionaire

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Regis Philbin CBS

Who thinks the hot seat is best served with a side of Regis Philbin?

The original host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will once again be nailing down final answers when the game show returns to prime-time this summer to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Philbin, 77, a many-time Daytime Emmy nominee for Live With Regis and Kelly but a winner in 2001 for Millionaire, helped launch the unlikely ratings monster for ABC in 1999. He rode the wave until 2002, even launching a line of menswear in the process.

At its Philbin-hosted peak, Millionaire was airing four nights a week. Meredith Vieira took over hosting duties in 2002 when the Q&A fest, having exhausted its prime-time appeal, was relaunched in syndication.

Philbin's 11-episode engagement kicks off  Aug. 9 on ABC. The show will air Sunday through Thursday for two weeks, with the anniversary finale taking place Sunday, Aug. 23.
