Will Smith has teamed up with the Sci Fi Channel—which, after July 7 will be called Syfy—to produce a new crime procedural about an ex-cop who resolves to help the recently deceased tie up their earthly loose ends.
The cable net will kickoff the series with a two-hour TV movie that will double as the pilot episode.
Meanwhile, the mothership here at E! is prepping a double dose of reality, greenlighting shows that will respectively chronicle the tabloid-friendly lives of Lorenzo Lamas and his brood and the continuing adventures of Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian.
Looks like keeping up with the latter family just became a slightly more time-consuming endeavor.
Tentatively titled Kourtney and Khloé in Miami, the Kim-free reality series will follow the newly single oldest and youngest of the Kardashian sisters as they head to Florida to open an East Coast location of their Dash boutique—and get into all sorts of drama, including Khloé's decision to moonlight as a local radio host.
As with Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Ryan Seacrest will produce the series, which debuts on E! in August.
As for The Lamas Family, the series will follow not only Lorenzo, but his playboy soap actor son, A.J., his musically inclined teenage daughter Dakota, his 23-year-old reality-alum daughter, Shayne, and Lorenzo's cordial yet meddling ex-wife Michelle.
Shayne Lamas entered the reality record books last year as the recipient of British Bachelor Matt Grant's final rose. Grant popped the question to Lamas on the finale, but the duo—in the great Bachelor tradition—ended their engagement after a few short months.
The show will begin airing this fall.

• Stomp the Yard's Columbus Short wins big with The Losers. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the thesp will join Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba in the action flick, following a team of rogue black ops special forces who seek revenge after a betrayal. Short will play Pooch in the film, an adaptation of the Vertigo/DC Comics graphic novel.
• Monica Potter is in the Parenthood. Per the Hollywood Reporter, she plays Peter Krause's wife in the hourlong NBC pilot, which revolves around the relationship between four adult siblings—Krause, Maura Tierney, Erika Christensen and Dax Shepard—and their parents. She replaces Californication's Diane Farr in the role.
