Brady Green, a 37-year-old Georgia man who was arrested last spring, goes on trial in Manhattan Criminal Court today for charges of stalking, harassment and criminal trespass.
Banks is expected to testify during the trial.
Brady has pleaded not guilty on all counts and has so far rejected several plea deals offered by the prosecution to avoid jail time. Yesterday, Judge James Burke gave approval for most of Green's police statements to be used as evidence in the trial.
And there were some doozies.
Green, who told police he and Banks "had a thing together," was arrested on March 18, 2008, at the New York studio that houses The Tyra Banks Show.
"Should I plead no contest?" he asked police shortly after his arrest. "I've got satellites watching me and recording us."
According to the criminal complaint filed against Green, the man had been stalking Banks since January of the same year and had attempted to contact the daytime fixture by appearing at both her Los Angeles and NYC studios, making repeated phone calls and sending multiple letters to her workplace and even having flowers delivered to the runway star.
At the time of his arrest, he was found carrying a large duffel bag full of magazine clips of the model, along with notes he had written himself cataloging his attempts at contacting Banks.
Banks told the Manhattan District Attorney's office she was "in fear of physical injury, serious injury or death" as a result of Green's actions. Shortly after the incident, she was granted a restraining order against him.
Should Green be convicted of his most serious charge, stalking in the third degree, he faces up to one year in prison.
