SNL Reveals "Real" Inspiration for The Office

Michael Scott would no doubt have something to say about this.

Saturday Night Live on, well, Saturday, presented one of its SNL Digital Shorts, in which Ricky Gervais, creator of the across the pond version of The Office, riffs on the Americanized one—before "admitting" his program was actually inspired by a show that originated in Japan.

While these prerecorded skits don't exactly abide by the SNL's "live" element, we'd be lying if we said they weren't pretty funny—and this one, featuring, appropriately, host Steve Carell, is certainly no exception.

Plus it just goes to prove, no matter how many versions of The Office they spin out, we'll keep watching. Bring it on, Land of the Rising Sun!
