Who knew Twilight's fanggirls would sink their teeth so heartily into the vampire saga's DVD release?
Oh, right. Everyone.
The Robert Pattinson adulators were out in full force Saturday for the highly anticipated midnight launch of the film's home video release, buying up more than 3 million copies of the special-edition double-disc on its first day alone.
In addition to silencing any Twilight-fatigued critics, the overwhelming sales haul helped the film enter the record books as one of the top five best first-day DVD releases in the past two years, joining the esteemed company of fellow blockbusters Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, The Dark Knight, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Transformers.

"We are incredibly appreciative that Twilight fans came out to once again support this film at our midnight events across the nation," said Summit Home Entertainment President Steve Nickerson.
"With such a successful first-day sales, it is apparent that our fans remain passionate about the Twilight saga and want to own a piece of the Edward and Bella story they have come to love."
Doing all they could to add to the launch-day buzz, Summit strategically dispatched castmembers to surprise purchase-happy fans at retail locations across the country for the DVD debut, an event dubbed "Twilight at Midnight."
Rachelle Lefevre, who plays Victoria, took on Salt Lake City; Ashley Greene, aka Alice Cullen, appeared in Los Angeles; nonreturning director Catherine Hardwicke did Dallas; Edi Gathegi, who plays Laurent, made his way to New York; and Nikki Reed, better known these days as Rosalie Hale, brought her brand of razzle-dazzle to Chicago.
Rob Pattz and Kristen Stewart were conspicuously absent from the midnight madness DVD festivities.
The bloodsucking romance has grossed nearly $380 million theatrically worldwide.
The second installment in the saga, New Moon, began filming earlier this month in Vancouver and is due out on Nov. 20.
