Nina Garcia: To Elle With It

Nina Garcia isn't saying au revoir to Elle just yet.
Despite rumblings that the fierce (is there any other kind?) Project Runway judge would be making the jump to rival Marie Claire's masthead tout de suite, the media maneuvering now looks to be put off until fall to allow the fashionista—and, more important (to publisher Hachette Filipacchi), the magazine—one more season to shine on the runway hit.
Rather than stay on as Elle's fashion director, her position for the last eight of her 13 years at the magazine, Garcia will become an editor-at-large, a position that she will hold through Sept. 1, Roberta Myers, Elle's editor in chief, announced today.
The time span, needless to say, is just long enough to ensure prime placement for the magazine on the next season of Project Runway.
The announcement comes on the heels of official word that Garcia has already sewn up a job as fashion director at Hearst's Marie Claire, a position that will go into effect on—wait for it—Sept. 2.
The catwalk's never been so catty. Guess the fall forecast is in: Job-hopping is the new black.
