In Britney's case, it was widely reported that she bought her engagement ring, at least her first one. But in most cases, diamond industry experts tell me, the man still buys the ring, enjoying a discount of up to 50 to 75 percent as a result of his connection to a major star.

On shows like America's Most Wanted and other reenactment crime shows, they find actors who look exactly like the person who "did it." How do they do that?

"They go through an extras casting company," says film and TV casting director LaTanya Potts. Why? Because "extras casting companies register thousands of people who come into town looking to dabble in the industry." In fact, Potts says, it's not unheard of for such casting agencies to have 5,000 people or more in their databases, with each actor's stats at the ready. "You just type in the criteria you're looking for," she says, and find your criminal-for-a-day.
